Which board is best in India? ICSE, CBSE, or State board?

Difference between CBSE and ICSE

What’s the Primary focus about the Curriculum, Syllabus of the respective board?

Difference between CBSE and ICSE

Central Board of Secondary Education abbreviated to CBSE is an educational board affiliating public and private schools in India and other countries that is inclined towards the progression shown in students in terms of their problem-solving abilities and application skills. After a concept is taught, tests are conducted through different methodologies helping them learn the application of concepts in diverse contexts. CBSE syllabus is quite tough; students have to put in that extra effort to score well. The board educates students in two mediums being English and Hindi. CBSE schools give a slight preference for Science & Math because the highly competitive examinations conducted every year are based on their syllabus.

What’s about ICSE?

Difference between CBSE and ICSE

ICSE is an exam conducted by the Council for Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (CICSE). CICSE Curriculum is formulated in such a manner that students gain in-depth knowledge about several topics and concepts, both in terms of application and content. For students’ assistance in the development of superb analytical skills, a lot of emphases is laid on practical and laboratory work. Students here need to study many subjects only in English, unlike CBSE, through reading and collecting immense amounts of information and learning from them. They develop themselves enough to be able to solve complex problems and even their communication skills are coherent. The CICSE syllabus is vast, comprehensive, and difficult, demanding students to spend lots of time reading and referring to books other than the prescribed ones.

State board pedagogy

State boards account to be nearly 30 all over India. The Curriculum and syllabus vary across states. A common perception observed in the Curriculum of state boards is that they give more importance to rote learning than critical thinking and application. However, this doesn’t apply to all state boards as some are as rigorous as CBSE, with stringent evaluation. The syllabus is more of a generic kind and easy to grasp despite students’ aptitude. Scoring well is easy as questions are framed by just referring to the syllabus. In-state syllabus, more Weightage is given to their regional language apart from English which could even be optional. It has a moderately loaded Curriculum, helping students and teachers to cover up in lesser time, giving enough time for extracurricular activities and sports.

Apart from the syllabus and Curriculum, what also matters is the worldwide recognition board.

1) Due to CBSE’s quite challenging syllabus students won’t have a problem when it comes to adjusting to foreign educational systems.

2) CICSE affiliated schools are located in foreign countries and the syllabus is much tougher when compared to the syllabus of schools in the UK and the USA. Hence, getting into the Curriculum of foreign countries won’t bring any difficulty.

3) State board students do well in the US and UK as the Curriculum in such countries is far less demanding.

Another important aspect also lies in extracurricular activities.

1) Extracurricular activities vary across CBSE schools. Many give supreme importance to such activities, whereas others focus strictly on studies.

2) CICSE Curriculum supports and promotes extracurricular activities, it believes in Imparting an all-around education. Students receive exposure to different types of activities that range from academically oriented project works, competitions, and debates to several other activities such as music, arts, drama, and sports.

3) In-state board, these activities vary across schools. Some lay equal emphasis on academics and extracurricular activities, whereas some give minimal importance to extracurricular activities.
